A few months back, my wife and I decided that having a cell phone bill of over $100 dollars a month was not feasible any more during these hard economic times. We have been with Verizon Wireless for over 6 years now. We thought, “hey , we only have about seven to eight months left in our current agreement, after we explain the situation, Verizon will understand and release us from our contract right way”. Given the fact that we have been so loyal to them for so many years. Well, guess what? We were dead wrong. After explaining our hardship situation which entitles us to some consideration, they are slamming us with all the fees they can legally charge. They are even threatening us to take the whole account to collections. People, this is sad but true here in America. Your loyalty to a company in the US is worthless. At the end, it boils down to getting money from you no matter if the bridge will be burned for ever. While times are great and roses smell, everything is fine and dandy. But when disaster strikes and you need assistance and consideration, most companies turn their backs at you. Think about the bank that is holding your note, the credit card companies, and any creditor you’ve been dealing for many years in the past. You see yourself struggling to make ends meet and at the same time keep up with all your debt obligations. You call to warn of the situation before it gets out of hand. What do they do? They do not listen nor give you feasible alternatives until your current situation improves. This is the sad reality of us. My advice to you is, educate yourself. Please have a plan. Without a plan is like flying to a known destination with limited fuel in your tank. For many Americas, that fuel is about gone. Times will rebound and we will be able to find a descent paying job again. Things will look bright one more time. But, do not fall on the trap of consumerism Americans are known for all over the world. Lear how to manage your money, invest, learn from those who are willing to show the ropes. At the end, you will laugh sipping on a cocktail in a beautiful island by age 55 and retired. Is not too late!
